The metros that carry the volume
California's population, and its dental search volume, is heavily concentrated. Greater Los Angeles alone accounts for nearly 12.8 million people, followed by the Inland Empire around Riverside, the San Francisco Bay Area, and San Diego. Those four metros carry the bulk of the state's search demand, the most competition, and by far the hardest local rankings. Sacramento and San Jose form a strong next tier, while Fresno and Bakersfield are more winnable Central Valley markets where a single practice can realistically own the local map.
Budget should follow that map, not the state line. Competing in Beverly Hills or downtown San Francisco is a different game than competing in Fresno, and a strategy that ignores the difference wastes budget in both directions.
